Raising Engagement with Accountability & Education

Client's Challenge
Employee engagement challenges
Employee engagement correlates with higher levels of performance across multiple dimensions including customer service, productivity and innovation. A several hundred person department in a large higher education organization faced the challenge of how to raise engagement among its diverse employee population (the most diverse group in the university.) Due to the client organization’s business strategy focus on achieving high performance and a collaborative and inclusive culture, raising employee engagement was prioritized by leadership as a critical area for improvement. Prior efforts had not yielded desired improvements, and the organization felt stuck.

Exponential Talent's Solution
Data driven & holistic engagement solution
Exponential Talent’s approach featured:
  • Analysis of employee survey data to identify root cause issues in employee engagement, allowing engagement investments to focus on the most important improvements.
  • Design of an improvement planning process to bring leaders and employees together to jointly develop action plans to hear all voices.
  • Development of an easy to use accountability dashboard to ensure leadership follow through on commitments. The dashboard’s at-a-glance visual that displays responsibilities has led to leaders taking immediate action when progress stalls and keeps the team focused on engagement.  
  • Alignment of performance management to include employee engagement.
  • Design of quarterly executive education modules: custom live training that includes facilitator instructions, presentation materials, and interactive exercise designs to improve knowledge of engagement best practices and of solutions to the areas pinpointed by analytics.
  • Creation of employee communications aligned for improvement.
  • Celebration of achievements and progress.

Key Findings and Results
7-15% improved engagement
Twelve months after the work initiated, the focused, participatory and accountable process for employee engagement delivered results.
  • In the first year of implementation, the client organization improved engagement by 7%.
  • 11 of 12 areas measured had a positive improvement and gains of nearly 15% were achieved in specific areas targeted for improvement.
